The RPI for December was 4.8%. This is the inflation figure used to calculate next year’s increase in ITL Pensions. The CPI was 4.2%. Increases in both state and ITL Pensions come into effect in April 2012. State pension increases are based upon the September inflation figures.

IMPAC is pleased to announce that both Pensioner Trustees have been re-elected. Allan Russell and Robin Aspinall will continue as Directors of the ITPF Board for another 3 years. The next Council Meeting is will be held in Nottingham on the 23rd March 2011. It is expected that the Actuary’s Report on the latest Triennial Valuation may well have been ‘rubber stamped’ by then and will meet the presentation date of 11th May 2011.

The National AGM was scheduled for the 11th May 2011. Delays in the ‘signing off ‘ of the Actuary’s Report on the 2010 Triennial Valuation have caused this to be re-scheduled to the 17th May 2011. At the AGM on 19th May the following Officers were elected. National Chairman – Norman W H Ferguson (re-elected) National Secretary – L Michael Staal National Treasurer – Victor H Smithson (re-elected) IMPAC President Michael J Smedley presided. Midland Region’s Recruitment Officer, Neil B Tilson won the President’s Trophy for the third year running.

It was announced at the PFCC and the ITL Company staff today that the Imperial Tobacco Pension Fund will close the defined benefits fund (final salary scheme)to new entrants from the 1st October 2010. New staff after 30th September will be offered membership of a new defined contribution Fund.

In the year to December 2009, RPI annual inflation was 2.40%, up from 0.3% in November. So we can expect that a 2.4% increase will apply to our ITL pension from April 2010. The Office of National Statistics announced today that the percentage change over 12 months is 0.9%.
