RPI for December 2011

The RPI for December was 4.8%. This is the inflation figure used to calculate next year’s increase in ITL Pensions. The CPI was 4.2%.

Increases in both state and ITL Pensions come into effect in April 2012.

State pension increases are based upon the September inflation figures.

Trustee Election Results

IMPAC is pleased to announce that both Pensioner Trustees have been re-elected. Allan Russell and Robin Aspinall will continue as Directors of the ITPF Board for another 3 years.

For information the Employee Trustee, George Rigley, was also re-elected.

OPA to lobby Parliament on CPI switches.

The Occupational Pensioners’ Alliance (OPA), which represents two million occupational scheme members, accused the government of rushing through the changes, saying it had failed to consult on the switch from the RPI to the CPI properly.
OPA members will lobby parliament on Tuesday (1st March) with a host of other public sector and civil service pension scheme members to try to convince MPs to contest the switch.

OPA executive officer Roger Turner says: “People believe they have a right to the RPI. Morally, they are probably right.

It is expected that the Actuary’s Report on the latest Triennial Valuation may well have been ‘rubber stamped’ by then and will meet the presentation date of 11th May 2011.

National AGM 2011

The National AGM was scheduled for the 11th May 2011.

Delays in the ‘signing off ‘ of the Actuary’s Report on the 2010 Triennial Valuation have caused this to be re-scheduled to the 17th May 2011.

The venue will be the Gateway Hotel at Cinderhill in Nottingham. It will start a 2:30 pm. The guest speaker will be Elected Trustee Robin Aspinall.

Latest Council Meeting

The latest Council Meeting was held in Nottingham on the 1st September 2010. Philip Dobson was accepted as the new National Membership Liaison Officer. His duties are to manage the interchanges and relationship with our new Membership Agency BPI Associates. Access to our data base by National Officers and Regional Chairmen is essential for IMPAC to promote recruitment, maintain membership and monitor income.

Imminent changes to our Fund was high on the Agenda as was questions for the next PFCC on the 24th September 2010.

It was agreed that a Mailing Agency be contracted to mail out all National Mailings. This includes the IMPAC Newsletter IMPACt and Notification of the National AGM. Regions will still have responsibility for mailing out on any Regional matters.

At the AGM on 19th May the following Officers were elected.

National Chairman – Norman W H Ferguson (re-elected)

National Secretary – L Michael Staal

National Treasurer – Victor H Smithson (re-elected)

IMPAC President Michael J Smedley presided.

Midland Region’s Recruitment Officer, Neil B Tilson won the President’s Trophy for the third year running.

ITL Pension Fund Changes.

It was announced at the PFCC and the ITL Company staff today that the
Imperial Tobacco Pension Fund will close the defined benefits fund (final salary scheme)to new entrants from the 1st October 2010.
New staff after 30th September will be offered membership of a new defined
contribution Fund.

RPI December 2009

In the year to December 2009, RPI annual inflation was 2.40%, up from 0.3% in
November. So we can expect that a 2.4% increase will apply to our ITL pension
from April 2010.

The State Pension normally uses the September RPI increase. In 2009 it was
negative -1.4%! However, the Government has promised 2.5% minimum annual
increase which will apply from April 2010.

Recruitment Trophy 2008/9

Midland Region retained the Michael Smedley Recruitment Trophy for a third
successive year. The IMPAC President, Michael Smedley presented his Trophy to
Neil Tilson, the Midland Region Recruitment Officer, at the AGM in May 2009

RPI December 2008

The Office of National Statistics announced today that the percentage change over 12 months is 0.9%.

The RPI for December 2008 is therefore 0.9% and according to the Trust Deed and Rules of our Fund this will be used to determine pension increases from April 2009.
