National AGM 2010

At the AGM on 19th May the following Officers were elected.

National Chairman – Norman W H Ferguson (re-elected)

National Secretary – L Michael Staal

National Treasurer – Victor H Smithson (re-elected)

IMPAC President Michael J Smedley presided.

Midland Region’s Recruitment Officer, Neil B Tilson won the President’s Trophy for the third year running.

The committee met on 12 April 2010. Among matters discussed was ITL’s recent announcement regarding changes to the Pension Fund. The committee’s comments have been sent to the National Secretary, who is responding on behalf of IMPAC.

Annual General Meeting 2010

The IMPAC Scottish Region Annual General Meeting is being held at the Garfield House Hotel on Wednesday 21st.April at 6.00p.m. for 6.30p.m. At this meeting S.Andrews, A.G. Russell and C.Martin will outline the Actuarial Valuation procedure which will take place during 2010. A recent survey suggested that 90% of defined benefit schemes are now closed to new entrants. 20% are closed to future accruals and a further 40% are considering this option. Will the valuation place us with the 91% of schemes now in deficit? It may well do. ITL has always supported the fund when difficulties arise and there is no indication that they will do otherwise whatever the outcome of the valuation.

The 2009 AGM was held on 20 October when member-elected Trustee, Robin Aspinall, addressed the meeting.
At the Committee Meeting held prior to the AGM Brian Fox was appointed Regional Secretary, succeeding Michael Staal who had taken on the position of National Secretary (Acting)
Since the AGM Neil Williams, ex Imperial Group HO, has been co-opted to the committee. Neil has a wide knowledge of pension matters through his current position as Finance Director of the Society of Radiographers.

ITL Pension Fund Changes.

It was announced at the PFCC and the ITL Company staff today that the
Imperial Tobacco Pension Fund will close the defined benefits fund (final salary scheme)to new entrants from the 1st October 2010.
New staff after 30th September will be offered membership of a new defined
contribution Fund.

RPI December 2009

In the year to December 2009, RPI annual inflation was 2.40%, up from 0.3% in
November. So we can expect that a 2.4% increase will apply to our ITL pension
from April 2010.

The State Pension normally uses the September RPI increase. In 2009 it was
negative -1.4%! However, the Government has promised 2.5% minimum annual
increase which will apply from April 2010.

Postponed – Midland Region AGM

The Midland Region AGM scheduled for 7th January 2010 at the Wollaton Park
Community Association on Harrow Road, Wollaton, Nottingham NG8 1FG at 10:30
am. has been postponed because of the weather.

It will now be held on the 8th April 2010 in conjunction with the Open
Meeting.
